Moog Rekofa presents
Next generation of modular spring-driven cable reels
Following the market launch of its first spring-driven cable reel in 2024, Moog introduces the modular F 6947 and F 6948 series, designed for versatility, flexibility, and reliability.
Spring-driven cable reels are essential for ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of electrically powered machines in the construction industry. They reduce manual labor, improve operational safety, and enable flexible work processes. Tower cranes, mobile cranes, and harbor cranes use cable reels to supply power to the cab, lighting, and control systems. Electric powered excavators, concrete pumps, and drilling rigs rely on them just as much as mobile conveyor belts and lifting platforms. Today, spring-driven cable reels do more than provide a reliable and safe power supply. They also lay the groundwork for the digitalization of the construction site by transmitting sensor data and control signals to connected control systems.
Continuation of Product Development
As early as 2024, Moog Rekofa expanded its portfolio of high-performance drive and control systems as well as hydraulics by developing its first spring-driven cable drum. After receiving positive market feedback on the development project, management decided to further develop and strategically expand the new product line. Less than two years later, Moog is introducing the next product generation: the F 6947 and F 6948 series. Compared to the previous generation, the new product lines offer the same proven performance and robustness, while adding a modular structure and a more efficient, lightweight design with enhanced functionality.
Flexibility and efficiency through modular design and combinability
The spring-driven cable reels of the F 6947 and F 6948 series utilize a modular system that supports various configurations. By focusing on a limited number of spring and side plate variants, the system reduces complexity, contributing to overall cost savings. This is made possible by the optimal compatibility of the various components, which enables the new series to offer high flexibility and rapid implementation of customer-specific adaptations. In addition to variable outer dimensions, winding lengths, and spring forces, the system offers flexible cable and connector configurations, multiple cable routing options, and various mounting adapters. Application-specific sensor systems can also be integrated.
Compared to their predecessors, the new models also feature increased cable capacity. By increasing the number of spring turns, Moog is meeting the growing demand for longer winding lengths and extended cable-reel service life.
Safety and Performance in Design
When designing the new spring cable reels, Moog prioritizes low weight and optimized performance. Enhanced performance features, such as the use of larger springs, support demanding applications that require higher retraction forces or increased spring torque. This enables travel speeds of up to 1 m/s with the standard models. In addition, the drum housings are designed for extreme environmental conditions. Depending on the model, the slip rings also meet the requirements of protection class IP6K9K. All components are resistant to seawater, UV, and oil, making them suitable for demanding industrial applications and ensuring operational reliability in temperatures ranging between -40 °C and 80 °C.
The series is available in six variants, with reel lengths ranging from 10 m to 80 m, reel diameters of 202 mm or 302 mm, reel widths of 85 mm, 120 mm, 155 mm, and 190 mm, and discs with diameters of 330 mm or 500 mm. Additional variants can be customized to meet specific customer requirements. In addition to power transmission up to 32 A, with voltage ratings of 60 V AC or 500 V DC, the cable reels also support data transmission, including Ethernet, Profinet, or CAN bus.
