Rotary Solutions

We set the signals

Not only is the world turning faster and faster, our customers' requirements for secure and fast data transmission in combination with power currents are also increasing.

We at Moog Rekofa have risen to this challenge and developed standardized transmission options that can also be individually adapted to customer requirements. Whether sliding or non-contact, our systems are perfectly adapted to the respective environmental conditions.

Our large in-house test field enables us to react quickly to rapid changes in the industry and always offer our customers the optimum solution.

Signal and data transmission

  • EMC-protected transmission
  • Data rates up to 1 GBit/s
  • Sliding or non-contact transmission
  • Timely monitoring of data transfer by means of electronics

Power current transmission

  • Low-wear transmission modules
  • Compact and modular systems
  • Up to 10,000 amps
  • Combination with signals, data, encoders, media are standard

Optical system

Fiber Optic Rotary Joints

The data signals are transmitted contactlessly (optically). The optics can be equipped with repeaters according to our customers' requirements. The non-contact optical designs offer low attenuation, excellent electromagnetic compatibility and completely interference-free transmission, even in the most demanding industrial environments.

Data frequency: up to 1Gbit/s
Max. Speed: 1,000 rpm
Maintenance-free

Applications include

  • Digital 360° displays
  • Labeling machines
  • Robotics/remote handling vehicles
  • Welding turntables
  • Wind turbines

Contacting systems

Slip ring modular system (SM)

This technology is transmitted via 6 silver rivets that make flat contact with a Slip ring under predefined spring force. The Slip ring can be made of bare brass or, depending on the application, surface-finished. This system is used in industrial plants and in applications with very high vibrations and shocks. The finishing of the contact pairs guarantees corrosion protection.

Data frequency: up to 1 Gbit/s
Max. Speed: up to 60 rpm
Total service life: > up to 10 million rotations
Contact service life: up to 7 million rotations
Maintenance interval: up to 5 million rotations
Other: High contact reliability due to 6 contact points

Applications among others:
• Filling systems
• Construction machinery/cranes
• Welding systems
• Textile unwinders

Slip ring plate system (SP)

The Slip ring plate system was developed to achieve a very flat design. Contact is made using silver rivets with predefined spring tensioning force on surface-finished sliding tracks. The finishing of the contact pairs guarantees corrosion protection.

Data frequency: up to 12 Mbit/s
Max. speed: 5 rpm
Total service life: up to 4 million revolutions
Contact service life: up to 4 million revolutions
Many applications maintenance-free
Other: Very flat design

Applications among others:
• Revolving doors
• Aerial rescue platforms
• Robot 6th axis
• Reel changer (printing/packaging)
• Rotary welding drums

Gold wire (GW)

This system is contacted via a gold wire that runs in the V-groove of a gold-plated slip ring. This system is used where high running performance and low maintenance are required. Corrosion protection is guaranteed thanks to the plating of the contact pairs.

Data frequency: up to 400 Mbit/s
Max. Speed: 250 rpm
Total service life: up to 15,000 km
Service life contacts: up to 10,000 km
Maintenance interval: maintenance-free
Other: various diameters (from 12 mm)

Applications among others:
• Radar systems
• Robot 6th axis
• Vision systems
• Machine tools
• Wind turbines

Fiber Brush (FB)

With Fiber Brush technology, many small fibers bundled into a brush run with predefined pressure on a surface-finished slip ring. This fiber brush contact system eliminates the need for standard Slip ring maintenance procedures such as vacuuming brush residue, lubrication, regular wear checks and brush replacement.

Data frequency: up to 1 Gbit/s Ethernet
Max. Speed: 1000 rpm
Total service life: >100 million rotations
Service life contacts: >100 million rotations
Maintenance interval: maintenance-free
Other: suitable for power and data bus transmission

Applications among others:
• Filling and inflation systems
• Wind turbines
• Robot 6th axis
• Packaging systems

Slip ring system SEA (with spacer insulation)

In this design, the cast brass slip rings with different dimensions are set at an air distance using three insulated steel bolts. The insulation consists of creepage-resistant materials that are cut to specification. All nominal voltages can be realized in accordance with the relevant regulations. There is a connection eye on the slip ring where a cable can be fitted. Double leg holders are used as current collectors.

Max. Current: 630 A, 2kV
Max. Speed: 200 rpm
Total service life: up to 300 million rotations
Contact service life: up to 100 million rotations
Maintenance interval: 20 million rotations
Other: Replaceable carbon contacts

Applications among others:
• Rotary tables (welding, foaming, casting)
• Cranes
• Ship drives
• Packaging systems

Slip ring system SER (with ring insulation)

In the SER system, the slip rings are made of brass tubing with tool-manufactured insulating rings. There is a connection socket on the inside of the slip ring to which the corresponding cable is attached. Double leg holders are used here. The SER and SES systems can be combined.

Max. Current: 100 A, 690 V
Max. Speed: 30 rpm
Total service life: up to 200 million rotations
Contact service life: up to 100 million rotations
Maintenance interval: up to 20 million rotations
Other: Replaceable carbon contacts

Applications among others:
• Turntables
• Cranes
• Ship drives
• Packaging systems
• Wind turbines

Slip ring system SES

The SES modules were designed as a space-saving variant. The face slip rings are embedded in tool-manufactured insulating and spacer rings. The current pick-up is axial, whereby only one two-phase current collector is used for two Slip rings. This system always uses three carbon contacts per contact strip, which can also be designed in silver carbon quality as required. The Slip ring can be made of bare brass or surface-finished, depending on the application. This system is used in applications with very high vibrations and shock. The finishing of the contact pairs guarantees corrosion protection. The SER and SES systems can be combined.

Data frequency: up to 1.5 Mbit/s
Max. Speed: 30 rpm
Total service life: up to 15 million rotations
Contact service life: up to 5 million rotations
Maintenance interval: up to 1 million rotations
Other: 3 contact points/grinding track

Applications among others:
• Industrial plants
• Filling plants
• Harbor cranes

High-current brush holder

We use our high-current brush holders to transfer ground currents and lightning protection from static to rotating components. The various designs, including encapsulated combinations with other Moog Rekofa products, offer our customers a wide selection for various applications. In hybrid rotary distributors, we transmit up to 1,250 A as standard! But also 64,000 A for electroplating systems have already been realized.

  • Suitable for peripheral speeds of up to 7.5 m/s.
  • Current collectors made of copper graphite
or cast bronze with high load capacity.
  • Other brush holders, including double-leg versions
for loads between 10 and 300 A, are available from stock.
